Conservatives outraged over CNN photo of Thatcher with ‘pedophile’ Jimmy Savile

Conservative supporters Margaret Thatcher expressed outraged on Monday after CNN marked the death of the the former British prime minister by airing a photo of her with former BBC television presenter Jimmy Savile, a suspected pedophile. In a CNN Starting Point segment soon after the news of Thatcher’s death broke on Monday, the morning show displayed the black and white photo of Thatcher and Savile appearing together at an event in the 1980s to support the NSPCC children’s charity. CNN showed the photo at least four times during the five-minute segment. Scotland Yard announced that in 2012 that it had launched an investigation about a year after Savile’s death in October 2011 into allegations that he had sexually abused hundreds of children. Wall Street Journal Social Media Editor Neal Mann noted on Twitter that CNN “obviously didn’t get the memo” when it ran the photo of Thatcher with Savile. “That is the picture CNN chose to run for Margaret Thatcher’s obituary? A pedophile?” Michelle Malkin’s Twitchy website asked, accompanied by a list of tweets by conservatives slamming CNN’s decision. “Whoever’s doing the Thatcher montage on CNN is either an idiot or a sly lefty. Repeated images of Thatcher with Pinochet [...]

Update: Clinton hostage-taker arrested without incident

Leeland Eisenberg, who in 2007 engaged police in a 5-hour standoff as he held hostages in a Hillary Clinton campaign office, went missing from a halfway house on Sunday, a reporter for New Hampshire’s WMUR-TV tweeted. The conditions of Eisenberg’s escape were not clear, but he was due to be released in August following two probation violations. He was arrested in 2010 after failing to charge his GPS tracking bracelet and fleeing from police supervision. He was arrested again for failure to submit to mandatory alcohol testing. The 52 year old was expected to be released from the halfway house in August, thanks to a judge who gave him a third chance to meet the conditions of his probationary period. Prosecutors warned that a third chance for Eisenberg may not be a good idea, and cautioned that he could be a danger to the public. Eisenberg came to national attention when he strapped road flares to himself and walked into a Clinton campaign office in New Hampshire claiming he had a bomb. The standoff ended without injuries. WMUR-TV noted that authorities do not believe Eisenberg is armed. Members of the public are being encouraged to report any possible sightings to [...]

Florida GOP Gets Bored: Decides To Waste Taxpayer Money Stalking Beyonce & Jay Z

Do Florida Republican lawmakers have nothing better to do with our taxes? Republican Congress members, Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart, (shown below) asked for an investigation by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control to look into why Jay Z and Beyoncé are in Cuba. (compliments of Florida taxpayers). Written in the politicians request: “We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of licence that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel,” they wrote. “If these individuals were given people-to-people licenses, we would like to bring to your attention the Cuba Travel Advisory issued by OFAC on July 25, 2011 which states, ‘OFAC only licenses People-to-People Groups that certify that all participants will have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba.’” What? Are the Congress members ‘concerned’ –or bored? They’ve been reading, ‘How to get noticed by the GOP – 101′ and it’s just not working. Maybe this will do it. According to U.S. law, in order or Americans to visit Cuba, they must obtain a specific license. Citizens are not allowed to visit the country [...]

What Congress Does Best-Nothing

Despite widespread fears that dramatic budget changes would wreck an already fragile recovery, Congress unsurprisingly decided not to stray from their recent modus operandi and do what they do best– which became exponentially more prevalent since the current substandard Supreme Court decided to let corporate billions subvert the democratic process via the inexplicable ruling in Citizen’s United–nothing. Marginal income tax rates on top earners went up at the first of this year, and—more importantly—a reduction in the payroll tax rate adopted for stimulative purposes was allowed to expire. Other automatic cuts, the inexorable Sequestor, were delayed by a few months, but they too were allowed to take effect in March. How to Dismantle a Superpower Ever since the 2010 wave of poorly-qualified freshmen Congresspersons brought ineptitude to a new high in American politics, America’s bickering Republicans and Democrats have mostly resolved their fiscal differences by postponing them. That approach came to a head at the end of last year, when a horde of tax increases and spending cuts were allowed to take effect. The world has since watched and waited – admittedly perplexed – as January and February came and went without a collapse in economic activity. Employers continued to [...]

Watch: Powerful 60 Minutes Interview With Newtown Families

As parents of the children tragically slain at Sandy Hook Elementary School prepared to lobby Congress for gun violence prevention measures on Monday, CBS News’ 60 Minutes aired a powerful interview with seven of the families Sunday night, all members of the group Sandy Hook Promise. Many of the parents spoke wrenchingly of the moments leading up to the discovery of their children’s fates, and discussed what they would like to see happen on Capitol Hill. While background checks seem to have the most public support, it was magazine sizes that many of the Newtown parents saw as most important. The parents of Sandy Hook children Dylan Hockley, Ana Marquez-Greene, Benjamin Wheeler, Daniel Barden, and Jesse Lewis, as well as the mother of slain teacher Lauren Rousseau and the husband of school psychologist Mary Sherlach, began by introducing interviewer Scott Pelley to their lost loved ones. Jimmy Greene told Pelley that it was an honor to have known his six year-old, Ana, and that he cries every day. Ben Wheeler’s mom, Francine, revealed that her other son, Nate, “was hiding when he heard Ben and his classmates and educators get shot.” Mark Barden said, of his late son, Daniel, “He [...]
