Donald Trump threatens $25 million lawsuit over Macy’s protest
Donald Trump is apparently in a suing mood lately.
Not only has Trump filed suit against comedian Bill Maher after Maher jokingly suggested that Trump was spawned from sex between a human and an orangutan, the “Apprentice” host/media fixture is threatening to sue the organizer of a boycott asking that Macy’s sever its ties with Trump.
Trump’s attorney, Alan Garten, has sent a letter to Angelo Carusone, who launched an online petition urging Macy’s to drop Trump, saying that Trump will sue Carusone for damages “not less than $25,000,000″ if he continues his campaign.
“While you claim to be merely exercising or right to free speech, your egregious, pre-meditated and illegal conduct far exceeds anything protected by the Constitution,” the letter, dated December 27, reads. “Rather than simply engage in lawful protest, you have apparently made it your mission to interfere with and intentionally disrupt Mr. Trump’s longstanding and well-established business relationship with Macy’s as well as his contractual dealings with other third parties through mob-like bullying and coercion.”

Poll: With A Lofty Approval Rating, Christie Trounces Likely Challenger In Guv Race
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) continues to boast an astronomical approval rating and appears poised to coast to re-election this year, according to the latest findings from Quinnipiac University released Wednesday.
Christie’s 74 percent approval rating among Garden State voters ranks as the highest of any governor in the seven states polled by Quinnipiac. His approval rating of 56 percent among in-state Democrats is an overall score “most governors would kill for,” as Quinnipiac’s polling director Maurice Carroll put it in the survey’s release.
The poll also found Christie with a nearly 40-point edge over his likely Democratic challenger in this year’s gubernatorial race, state Sen. Barbara Buono. Sixty-two percent of New Jersey voters said they would prefer Christie, while just a quarter of voters said they would vote for the little-known Buono. A whopping 83 percent of voters said they haven’t heard enough about Buono.

Judge blocks NYC from Ken Burns film footage
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked New York City from getting footage gathered by documentary filmmaker Ken Burns in research for his movie about the five men exonerated in the Central Park jogger rape case.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald L. Ellis said the city had failed to show him a concern so compelling to trump the “precious rights of freedom of speech and the press” when it last fall requested outtakes and other materials from the film “The Central Park Five.”
The request was connected to a $250 million federal lawsuit filed by the men against the city nine years ago after their sentences were vacated. The attack on a 28-year-old investment banker occurred in April 1989, when she was found in the park after being beaten and raped while jogging. She was in a coma for 12 days and was left with permanent damage. The men were exonerated after a man already jailed for other crimes confessed, and DNA evidence supported his claim.
Ellis rejected arguments by the city that Florentine Films and filmmakers Ken Burns, David McMahon and Sarah Burns were not independent journalists entitled to reporter’s privilege.

Gingrich: GOP failing to grasp new demographics
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says President Barack Obama and Democrats are “eight to 10 years ahead” of the Republican Party in understanding the rapidly changing face of the American electorate.
Gingrich tells “CBS This Morning” that GOP strategists have failed to respond effectively to the new demographic landscape.
Gingrich, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination last year, says poor strategy and questionable consulting last year cost the Republicans nine U.S. Senate seats that “we should have won.” He says, “You can’t just be an opposition party. You have to be a party that has a better alternative.”
Gingrich says Democrats have more readily adapted to a voting public that is “in many ways younger, more Latino, more African-American, than Republican strategists are capable of dealing with.”
